Everyday, as consumers, we are bombarded and surrounded by advertisements telling us to buy a product or use a product or endorse a cause or care about this issue or feel this way and it can really be overwhelming.

Everyday, as students studying the art of communication, we are bombarded by those same ads and the demands posted above, but we are also forced to analyze the ads, test their effectiveness, question their ethics, determine the target audience and more, which can cause feelings similar to those of drowning.

This is a real ad. Do you think it's effective?

To breathe a bit of air into everyone’s information-soaked minds, we are highlighting some chapters from Max Sutherland’s text, Advertising and the Mind of the Consumer. This text does a great job of breaking down some of the chunks of information on advertisements into more chew-able, bite-sized pieces.

So join us as we attempt to uncover the secrets behind successful and not so successful advertisements and have all kinds of crazy adventures in the world of advertising.
